BC Hydro’s Energy Storage System (ESS) incentive program helps businesses acquire, install, and operate energy storage systems that can improve energy reliability while reducing demand on the electrical grid.
Managing Energy Demand More Efficiently
Energy storage systems (ESS) provide reliability and resiliency for businesses and the grid alike while helping to reduce GHG emissions as an alternative to diesel backup generation. Storing energy can help manage peak demand charges, reduce peak loads on the grid and provide electricity during outages.
The BC Hydro Incentive Offer
BC Hydro provides incentives to eligible business customers to support the purchase, installation, and operation of energy storage systems.
Once installed, BC Hydro may automatically manage the energy storage system based on grid conditions. When demand on the electrical grid increases, the system can discharge stored energy to help power the facility and reduce pressure on the grid.
The system can then recharge during lower-demand periods, such as later in the day or overnight.
